In January 2003, Brighton's famous West Pier finally collapsed into the sea after a series of devastating fires. The derelict West Pier had always been a long-standing 'poor relation' to Brighton's other pier (the pristine Palace Pier) but to see it finally come to the end of its life was still a very poignant and strangely-moving experience for a lot of people Six Years Later was written as a requiem for the West Pier - where I remember spending many childhood summer days - and features recordings of surf and seagulls made at the exact spot on Brighton beach where the West Pier once proudly stood.
